Speech Therapy

Rialette’s focus encompasses voice-related issues, oro-myo functional disorders, and speech-language therapy within a hospital setting. She maintains close collaboration with fellow Speech Therapy professionals, Ear-Nose and Throat specialists, orthodontists, and experts in the Oro-Facial-Maxillo fields.

Voice Problems

Various voice disorders can arise from a range of causes. The following issues are commonly encountered:

  • Loss of voice (ranging from a whispering tone to complete absence, lasting from weeks to years)
  • Vocal fold nodules
  • Vocal fold paralysis
  • Overuse and strain of vocal folds due to shouting, professional voice use, or singing
  • Stridor
  • Surgical larynx removal (laryngectomy) Additionally, Rialette provides voice education to proactively prevent voice problems or to maintain a functional, healthy use of the voice.

Oro-Myo Functional Disorders

Orthodontic support for oro-myo functional disorders

For more than three decades, Rialette has dedicated herself to the field of swallowing therapy, collaborating closely with orthodontists in Pretoria. Her true passion lies in providing orthodontic support to patients.

The goal of the therapy is to assist both the client and the orthodontist in achieving effective orthodontic treatment, ultimately reducing the duration when braces are required. Despite the presence of braces, the tongue’s strength can lead to challenges during treatment or even a regression once the braces are taken off.

Swallowing therapy strives to establish the appropriate muscular actions within the mouth to address this issue.

Therapy program

Following an assessment, the treatment comprises six therapy sessions, each lasting 30 minutes. Once the therapy program concludes, a collaborative evaluation is arranged to verify the establishment of the correct pattern.
